Wholegrain Digital created a website carbon calculator to help inspire and educate people to create a zero carbon internet.

Calculating the carbon emissions of a website is something of a challenge, but using five key pieces of data they can make a pretty good estimate using:

• Data transfer over the wire
• Energy intensity of web data
• Energy source used by the data centre
• Carbon intensity of electricity
• Website traffic

They've also open sourced the code so you can see how it works under the hood.
